Pronounced: Vor-rèi (Dizionario Italiano Garzanti). Vor-ray (Robert's Americanized version of the word).
Meaning: I would like (a polite way to ask for something). Vorrei un cappuccino perfavore. (I would like a cappuccino please). This is my favorite word in the Italian language and I use it all the time. In most Italian classes you learn to use the word voglio, which means I want. But, voglio, unlike the polite word vorrei, comes across to many Italians as a demand. Voglio cappuccino or I want cappuccino almost sounds rude. It's most polite to use Vorrei and Italians will notice the difference. Note: I show the pronunciation of each Word of the Day as found in Dizionario Italiano Garzanti, followed by Roberto's (Americanized) pronunciation of each daily word.
