Often referred to as the “Mayor” Of Lucca, Bob Powers has written the definitive book on his transformation from a typical American to becoming Italian. In many ways this is an adventure story in which the author isn’t thrown off by obstacles and perseveres until he is fluent in the language and decides to put his money where his mouth: taking on the Italian bureaucracy to buy an apartment and other things. Mr. Powers sense of humor, think Sedaris, often come across in faux pas resulting in out-right funny but he keeps going and enjoys the jokes even when they’re on him which is often the case in restaurants when, for example, he mistakenly orders string beans with whipped cream. Bravo Roberto.
