JUST OUTSIDE OF THE WALLED CITY
HEADING EAST AND SOUTH
With one of the most famous cities in the world a mere hour away, there is no excusing yourself from missing Firenze or, as the English refer to it, Florence. Make Lucca your home spot and take a bus or the train to Firenze, pictured here in five beautiful photos. Without question Firenze is a spectacular outing, then come back to a quieter and more relaxed Lucca.
Ninety minutes away sits Chianti (first four pics), and it’s many beautiful small cities. You know Chianti for its’ wine, but the region is filed with beauty and whether you make a long day of it or spend a few nights in wine country you can’t go wrong. I like to stop in Greve in Chianti and from there make the short drive to Lamole, where I have lunch at Ristorante Lamole (pic 5). This spectacular ristorante with the stunning views, serves a pear and gorgonzola ravioli that has my name written on it! Then, if I’m spending the night, I’ll drive to Panzano (6th pic) and go to Dario Cecchini’s macelleria. Dario (last pic), dubbed by the New York Times, as ‘the most famous butcher in the world,’ runs an art-filled macelleria and a wonderful restaurant. Chianti is another “must see.”
For the past five weeks we have explored Lucca and its surrounding areas. Next week, I have a sorpresa or a surprise, for you.
Ciao for now,
